Board Members Sought for Bay Area Legal Services

The Community Services Committee of the Hillsborough County Bar Association is seeking applicants for two attorney seats, one of which is eligible for reappointment, on the Board of Directors of Bay Area Legal Services, Inc. The positions carry three-year terms beginning in February 2019.

Bay Area Legal Services, Inc. is a non-profit corporation which provides legal services to the indigent. The Board is charged with guiding Bay Area Legal Services in its efforts to provide high-quality assistance to those who otherwise would be unable to afford legal counsel and to ensure that the agency is accountable to the client.

In accordance with 45 C.F.R. § 1607.3, appointments will be made to ensure that attorney board members include women and minorities and reasonably reflect the population of the area served. Applicants should have a demonstrated commitment to providing legal services to the indigent and to Bay Area Legal Services in particular.

Persons who have previously applied but have not been selected are encouraged to re-apply. Special consideration is given to current Board members who have served one term and remain eligible to serve one more. One of the two attorney openings is currently held by a person who is eligible to serve one more term.

Persons interested in serving may submit an application to Selection Committee chair, Karen M. Buesing, via email at karen.buesing@akerman.com. Completed applications must be returned to Ms. Buesing no later than December 10, 2018.
